What Is Rustic Modern Jewelry?

I was showing at a trunk show and a lady looked at my jewelry designs and said, “You must be a fan of Rustic Modern.” Like I knew what Rustic Modern was, I answered, “Of course, it’s just the way I am.” Then I went back to my studio and thank God for the Internet or I wouldn’t have known that, yes I am a Rustic Modern Designer.

Elements that Created My Style

Beach Life
All beaches, whether they border an ocean, lake or sea, are the picture of rest and relaxation. The mood of this style is wispy, soothing, monochromatic, a feeling of a light breeze rustling through the trees, think pale tan sand, soft blue skies with a few bright white clouds floating by, and aquamarine water as far as the eye can see. The trick is to keep things simple, no contrivances, and no clutter. Less is the beach code and all embellishments are natural like drift wood and sea shells. The choice is to simplify your life de-clutter and choosing a few things that are extremely personal and everything must tell only one story, who are you?

Asian Influence
Asian style is a term that encompasses the Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese and other Easter cultures. This is an eclectic style with an understanding of Fung Shui. This is a principal not an obedience and it just means that objects should be carefully placed and balanced with other elements to make sure that a desirable energy (Chi) is created. Specific elements, air, fire, earth, and water, bring good fortune, wealth, peace, and happiness. The palette of colors is cool with bold splashed of red, yellow, and green. The most important thing to remember is that everything means something and when it touches something else the combination must repeat a theme and the theme is the energy that is you.

Bamboo Chic
Sustainability is the phrase that gave birth to this style and bamboo is beautiful and environmentally responsible, so, this style is responsible and environmentally friendly and this makes it automatically chic. Reduce or simplify, reuse found objects and use them as art, like Jazz, this style is a variation on the theme. You remake yourself everyday redefining but never throwing you away. This is the ultimate meaning of recycling. This palette is again natural and soothing, like the colors of bamboo, green, tan and redefining black in shades of blue to gray.

BoHo Chic
Fun, fascinating and free wheeling. This Style is unconventional and carefree and is often associated with gypsies and nomads. Bohemian's rarely have money, yet their artistry and ability to make something out of nothing ensures that their surroundings are comfortable and unique. Inventiveness often overcomes financial limitations, and creative frugality rules. Bohemian living embraces all cultures and lifestyles and tends to take on a decidedly ethnic look. The bold and colorful patterns of India, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East feel right at home. Open your eyes and see that the style is all embracing and you can make it anything you want it to be.

I found all these elements that lined up with me and I spun them around and out came...

Creating is Blending
So, is it important to think about all this? For me, yes. I started this conversation with myself because I wanted to brand my jewelry as an easy way to make people think they knew me and increase my chance to make a sale. But as I searched the elements and materials that attract me I felt a change inside myself as I focused my attention on this seemingly impossible task. I found out that it is the contrast, the soft and hard, the matte and sparkle, organic and man-made. This became a method to expand myself. As I placed a value on each element, I had to feel its vibration and say yes or not so much to each thing. I noticed the beauty of the different, the value of variety. It became an alignment - a fulfilment - a magnetic attraction to the elements I love. Wow, I really started to look for the things that make me feel a higher vibration and I felt better about starting a new piece and I was refreshed. I branded myself for others and became connected to my inner universe.

I love talking to you and I hope to hear from you soon
